The Bowling Green State University women's soccer team, after closing the non-league portion of the schedule with a come-from-behind victory, opens Mid-American Conference play with a pair of home matches this weekend ... the Falcons of head coach Andy Richards will meet the University at Buffalo on Friday afternoon (Sept. 24), with kickoff scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at Cochrane Field ... then, the Brown and Orange will host Kent State University on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 26) at 2:00 p.m. ... the KSU match is the second half of a doubleheader at Cochrane, as the BGSU men take on Lipscomb in an 11:00 a.m. kickoff.

The Falcons split a pair of matches to close the non-conference slate ... BGSU lost a 2-0 decision to Michigan State Friday afternoon/evening (Sept. 17) at Cochrane Field, but defeated Indiana State, 3-2, two days later in Terre Haute ... in Friday's match, two-time All-American Laura Heyboer headed home a cross in the 16th minute to give the Spartans the lead for good, and MSU added a second goal early in the second half ... senior Alexa Arsenault made six saves in goal for the home team ... at ISU, sophomore Sarah VonderBrink scored the winning goal for the second time in as many Sundays ... VonderBrink's goal broke a 2-2 tie in the 79th minute, after junior Alyssa Zuccaro twice rallied the Falcons from a goal down ... it was Zuccaro's first collegiate two-goal game, and it was BG's first come-from-behind victory in nearly three years ... BGSU head coach Andy Richards, in his 11th season at the helm, has proven himself to be one of the most successful mentors in MAC women's soccer history ... he has guided the Falcons to an overall record of 100-102-23, and a record of 53-49-12 in MAC regular-season play ... he picked up the 100th victory of his collegiate head-coaching career in the Falcons' 3-2 win at Indiana State (Sept. 19) ... Richards' teams perennially play one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the MAC ... in his first 10 years in BG, he led the Falcons to the MAC Tournament on eight occasions, with the team advancing to the semifinals seven times ... BGSU is 10-5-5 in MAC Tournament matches during his tenure, and no coach has more trips to the league tourney title game than Richards' five ... two of those appearances – in 2004 and 2005 – resulted in MAC Tournament titles and trips to the NCAA Championships ... Almond's total of three points this season ties her career standard • freshman Madeline Wideman celebrated her 18th birthday by recording an assist in the Falcons' win at ISU ... the assist was her second of the season • prior to the ISU contest, BGSU had not scored as many as three goals in a game in over a year ... the last time the Falcons had scored more than twice in a game was on Sept. 4, 2009, in a 4-0 win at Detroit • believe it or not, junior Alyssa Zuccaro's first goal at Indiana State marked BGSU's first goal in the first half this season ... in fact, the Falcons had not scored in the first half of a game since last Oct. 18 ... on that date, Keely Chandler found the net in the sixth minute, for what turned out to be the lone goal of a 1-0 win over Buffalo at Cochrane Field ... the Falcons had gone 11 consecutive games without scoring in the opening half • prior to Sunday, BGSU had been 0-24-3 since the start of the 2008 season in matches in which the opponent scored first ... the last time BG allowed the opening goal, but came back to win, was on Nov. 4, 2007 ... in that game, Samantha Bland tied the score at 85:36, and Corbie Yee scored a 'Golden Goal' just 1:46 into overtime for a 2-1 win over Eastern Michigan in the MAC Tournament quarterfinals • junior Megan Amann now has 15 career assists, ranking ninth on the BG career list.
