Falcons Off to Solid Start at Spartan Invite

BGSU players post combined mark of 13-5 on Friday
No team scores are kept at the Spartan Invitational, but champions will be crowned in each of the five singles and three doubles flights.
A total of four BGSU singles competitors went 2-0 on Friday, advancing to the semifinals in their respective flights.
At the top flight, senior Christine Chiricosta lost just nine total games in four flights, downing her opponents from Akron and Detroit, respectively, to advance to the semifinal round.
Freshman Emily Reuland went 2-0 in singles draw B, winning both of her matches in straight sets. At the C flight, sophomore Maddy Eccleston and freshman Nikki Chiricosta each went 2-0 in Friday action, setting up an all-BGSU semifinal. At least one Falcon is assured of advancing to the final in the C flight.
Junior Jessica Easdale and sophomore Katie Grubb each split their Friday matches at draws D and E, respectively. Mary Hill rounded out the Falcon singles competitors, playing a pair of contests in draw B.
In doubles action, Christine Chiricosta and Eccleston won an 8-3 contest over an Eastern Michigan team at the top flight, while Nikki Chiricosta and Hill also won a first-round match against a MAC foe at draw B. The latter BGSU team downed a Ball State tandem, 8-4.
In draw C, Easdale competed with a player from Marquette, posting an 8-4 win over a BSU duo.
The Spartan Invitational continues through Sunday (Sept. 26) at multiple venues in the East Lansing area.
