FISHERS, Ind. -- The Bowling Green State University women's golf team concluded the first round of The Preview on Monday (Oct. 10) as part of a tightly-packed middle of the 14-team field and gave themselves an opportunity to climb the leaderboard in the final round.

Playing at the Hawthorns Golf and Country Club, the site of the 2012 Mid-American Conference Championships, the Falcons carded a 318 during the first 18 holes. That score earned eighth place among the tournament's 14 teams and sixth among the nine participating MAC teams.

The Orange and Brown trail Ball State by one shot and Akron by two. Tournament host Western Michigan is tied for third, six strokes ahead of the Falcons. Ohio (324) is in ninth place, while Northern Illinois (362) finds themselves in last place, 20 shots behind the closest competition.

Eastern Michigan and Toledo share the first-round lead after shooting 305 on Monday.

Bailey Arnold leads the Bowling Green effort and has placed herself in position for another strong finish. She posted a 75 on Monday, including a 36 on the back nine, and currently resides in a three-way tie for ninth place. She is two strokes behind the leaders.

Arnold is tied for third among the MAC golfers at the event and trails Toledo's Piyathida Chaiyapan and Eastern Michigan's Alyssa Kwon by only one shot.

Team captain Amy Ruthenberg will attempt to move into the top 20 on Tuesday after shooting 79 in the first round. She is currently tied for 22nd.

Shelby Wilson and Paula DiFrancesco each carded rounds of 82 on Monday, while Patricia Holt scored an 86 on her first attempt at the Hawthorns.

The final round of the 36-hole tournament begins on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. with a shotgun start. Complete results will be available at BGSUFalcons.com on Tuesday evening.
