FISHERS, Ind. -- The Bowling Green State University women's golf team shot a 322 on Tuesday (Oct. 11) and finished tenth overall at The Preview, held in Fishers, Ind. at the Hawthorns Golf and Country Club.
The most important aspect of the tournament lay with the opportunity to play on the course that will host the 2012 Mid-American Conference Championships and to do so against several MAC opponents.
The Falcons were one of eight MAC schools in the 14-team field and finished seventh among that group. Their 36-hole total of 640 (318-322) placed them 65 strokes ahead of Northern Illinois and only seven strokes behind Ohio University.
The other five MAC schools occupied the top five spots of the final leaderboard. Toledo and Akron shared first place (621), and Toledo defeated the Zips in a one-hole playoff. Eastern Michigan (622) placed third while Western Michigan and Ball State (623) tied for fourth.
Bailey Arnold and Paula DiFrancesco shared the Falcons' top individual spot. Both combined rounds of 75 and 82 to finish with a 157 and a tie for 21st place. Arnold's low round occurred on Monday, while DiFrancesco earned hers on Tuesday.
Shelby Wilson (82-82) and Amy Ruthenberg (79-85) each also tied in the overall standings as they carded matching 164s. Patricia Holt posted a two-day total of 169 (86-83).
Ryann Gilley of Southern Illinois was the tournament's individual medalist after shooting 149.
BGSU concludes the first half of the 2011-12 season next week when they play in Fairlawn, Ohio at the annual Zippy Invitational. That event is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 17-18.
