Falcon Swimming to Host Two Homecoming Weekend Meets

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- The Bowling Green State University swimming team continues its exhibition schedule this weekend and celebrates BGSU's 2011 Homecoming weekend by hosting two meets at Cooper Pool, located in the BGSU Student Recreation Center.
The 2011 Tom Stubbs Relays begins the weekend on Friday (Oct. 14) afternoon with a scheduled 3:00 p.m. start time. The Falcons will compete in ten relay races against Akron, Toledo and Youngstown State. The meet represents BGSU's first taste of outside competition as the team prepares for the regular season opener on October 22.
The scheduled events include 3x100 butterfly, 3x100 backstroke, 3x100 breaststroke, 3x500 freestyle and 4x100 individual medley. Teams will also race in the 200, 400 and 800 freestyle relays, as well as 200 and 400 medley relays.
Head coach Petra Martin said, "This is a fun and unique way to start off the season. The girls will be busy with swimming a lot of back to back races, but it is a good way for the freshmen to deal with competition pressure and for learning to get up and race no matter how tired you are."
On Saturday (Oct. 15), the Falcons host the team's annual Jean Campbell Alumni Meet. Many members of past BGSU teams will be present, as current team members square off against swimmers of Falcon past in several exhibition races.
Swimmers will compete in the 50 freestyle, 50 butterfly, 50 backstroke and 50 breaststroke, as well as the 100 individual medley, 4x50 medley relay and 4x50 freestyle relay.
Martin said, "We are excited to have the alumni back with us and are looking forward to some fun races. We have a bunch of events planned for the alums throughout the weekend that will help connect them to the current team."
Falcon fans are encouraged to attend both events, and there is no charge for admission.
Bowling Green's regular season gets underway one week from Saturday in Fremont, Ohio as BGSU hosts a triangular meet with John Carroll and Oakland University. More details about that meet will be available later this weekend.
