Paula DiFrancesco Sizzles As Falcons Contend at Wolf Pack Classic

DAYTON, Nev. -- Despite heavy winds that cancelled one of the first two rounds, Paula DiFrancesco lit up the Dayton Valley Golf Club with a career-best 71 as the Bowling Green State University cruised to sixth place after the first round of the 2011 Wolf Pack Classic.

DiFrancesco, who had already beaten her previous career-best earlier this season, shot a 36 on the front nine and followed that with a 35 on the back half of the course. She holds sole possession of third place and trails the co-leaders by just two strokes. Her round is tied for third-best in school history.

While DiFrancesco anchors the Falcons with senior leadership, Bailey Arnold and Patricia Holt help lead BGSU's youth movement. On Monday (Oct. 3), the pair tied with five others for 20th place after shooting 78. Arnold carded 39s on the front and back of the course, while Holt shot 37 on the final nine holes.

Both Holt and Arnold find themselves only three shots outside of the top ten.

Team captain Amy Ruthenberg shot a first-round 80 to finish the day tied for 37th, while freshman Shelby Wilson enters the final round tied for 41st after posting an 81 on Monday.

As a team, the Falcons scored a composite 307 on Monday. They trail fifth-place Montana by one stroke and fourth-place Nevada by two. The tournament leader, California-Irvine, leads BGSU by nine strokes.

The tournament was originally scheduled to be 54 holes; however, the second round was cancelled due to strong winds, which included gusts over 30 miles per hour. The Wolf Pack Classic will now conclude as a 36-hole event. The final 18 holes will begin on Tuesday (Oct. 4) with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
