Falcon Swimming Begins Season With Orange vs. Brown Meet

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- The Bowling Green State University swimming team began the 2011-12 season on Friday night (Oct. 7) at BGSU's Cooper Pool with the team's annual intrasquad Orange versus Brown exhibition meet.

The meet featured a set of events that was different from years past, as head coach Petra Martin wanted to get an accurate gauge of where the team is at this point in the year. Overall, there were 12 individual races and one relay.

The Orange team defeated the Brown, 117-108. Emily Bennet, who raced for the Orange team, broke the meet record in the 100 backstroke.

Martin said, "We had several strong swims, but we also learned what we still need to work on. It was a great opportunity for the girls to get into racing mode, and they put great intensity into it. We want to thank all of the families, friends and supporters that came to watch the meet. It was an exciting event, and it was great to see the support in the stands."

The Falcons, who went 3-4 in dual meets and finished sixth at the Mid-American Conference Championships last season, continue their exhibition season next weekend with two meets. First, on Friday (Oct. 14), BGSU hosts the Tom Stubbs Relays at 3:00 p.m. at Cooper Pool. Then, on Saturday at 9:30 a.m., the Falcons host the annual Jean Campbell Alumni Meet.

The regular seaosn begins with a tri-meet against John Carroll and Oakland University on Saturday, Oct. 22, in Fremont, Ohio.
