Bobcats earn trip to Cleveland with win at Northern Illinois Sunday night
The Bowling Green State University women's basketball team, seeded second for the Mid-American Conference Tournament, will face 10th-seeded Ohio University in the quarterfinal round. The Falcons and Bobcats will meet on Wednesday (March 9), with tipoff at high noon at Quicken Loans Arena in downtown Cleveland.
MAC TOURNAMENT BRACKET
The Bobcats earned the trip to the quarterfinals with a 72-56 road win over seventh-seeded Northern Illinois University in first-round action Sunday night (March 6). The Bobcats improve to 9-21 on the season with the win, and Ohio went 4-12 in MAC regular-season action.
The Falcons (25-4, 13-3 MAC) defeated Ohio in each of the teams' two regular-season meetings. BGSU picked up a 66-54 win in Athens on Jan. 5, in the conference opener for both teams. Then, the Brown and Orange downed the Bobcats, 77-63, at Anderson Arena on Feb. 16.
Interestingly, Ohio is the only team to hold a series advantage over the Falcons in MAC Tournament meetings. The Bobcats are 3-2 against BG in league tourney matchups. Ohio has won the last two tourney games vs. BG, including a 68-66, double-overtime decision three years ago in the teams' lone prior meeting at Quicken Loans Arena.
The winner of Wednesday's game will advance to Friday's (March 11) semifinal round, and will play in the noon game on that day as well. The MAC Tournament's championship game is scheduled for Saturday (March 12) at 1:00 p.m.
