Apthorpe, Arnold Named Papa John's Players Of The Week
April 11, 2011 | Baseball, General, Women's Golf
Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Papa John's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are baseball player Cody Apthorpe and women's golfer Bailey Arnold.
Male Athlete of the Week
Cody Apthorpe, a sophomore from Windham, Ohio, set new career highs for a single outing in innings pitched (7.0) and strikeouts (8) as he contributed toward the Falcons' shutout win over Ball State on Friday, 2-0. Seven of Apthorpe's eight strikeouts were recorded in his first three innings of work, including three strikeouts in the third inning. He allowed only four hits and no runs on the day before handing off the ball to Mike Frank, who finished with the save.
Female Athlete of the Week
Bailey Arnold, a freshman from Cincinnati, Ohio, tied for seventh place at the EKU Lady Colonel Classic. Arnold carded two of the best rounds of the 2010-11 season when she produced scores of 74 in both the first and third rounds. Her 54-hole total (226) is one of the five best in BGSU history and comes in just her sixth tournament as a Falcon. Arnold also became the first current Falcon to earn a top-ten finish this season. Her per-round scoring average (79.69) leads the team with just two tournaments left.
