Beatty, Reinink Named To 2010-11 Academic All-MAC Team

Four Falcons Earn Academic All-MAC Honorable Mention
CLEVELAND, OHIO – On Tuesday afternoon (April 12), the Mid-American Conference announced the 2010-11 Academic All-MAC Swimming and Diving Team. The team consists of 27 members from seven conference schools. The Bowling Green State University swimming team placed two student-athletes on the squad.
Beatty also won during the season in the 500 free, when she took the top spot in a dual against Youngstown State. In both the 500 and 1650 freestyle races, she saved her best for the MAC Championships. She raced to a season-best time of 5:03.69 in the 500 free and finished in a season-best 17:28.04 in the 1650 free. Beatty also raced in the 1650 free at the Eastern Michigan Invitational, where she placed ninth.
Sarah Reinink, a junior from Holland, Mich., is working towards a degree in health science, and she carries a GPA of 3.561. Like her teammate, Reinink was at her best during the MAC Championships. She competed as one leg of the Falcon 200 free relay team that won a silver medal. The team finished in 1:32.37 and set a BGSU record in the event.Reinink also helped the Falcons score points in the 200 medley and 400 free relays, as BGSU finished fifth and sixth in those events, respectively. She also notched career-best times in the 50 free (0:23.41) and 100 free (0:51.43), and both are top-ten times in Bowling Green history. During the regular season, Reinink raced on four winning relay teams and notched seven top-three finishes in individual events.
Four other Falcons were recognized by the MAC for their academic and athletic accomplishments, as they were named Academic All-MAC Honorable Mention.
Megan Bomicino, a junior psychology major with a 3.506 GPA, set a personal record as she finished 13th in the 1650 free at the MAC Championships. Her time to 1000 yards (10:14.18) in that race is the third-best 1000 free time in Falcon history. During the regular season, she won the 1000 free twice, versus Akron and Youngstown State, and claimed second place two other times.
Andrea Brown is a junior seeking a degree in visual communication technology, and she carries a 3.375 GPA. Brown posted personal-best times in the 200 and 500 free races at the MAC Championships and helped the 800 free relay team finish fifth. In dual meets, Brown won the 200 free against Michigan State and placed third three other times. She also finished third in the 500 free (twice) and the 1000 free (once).Sarah Burston is one of two Falcon seniors. As a communication major, Burston owns a 3.489 GPA. At the MAC Championships, Burston scored points for BGSU in each of her four events. She raced for the 400 medley relay team that set a school-record time (3:44.47) and finished fourth overall. Individually, she finished eighth in the 100 butterfly and also scored points in the 200 butterfly and 200 IM. She scored a whopping 16 top-three finishes during the regular season.
Bowling Green, Ohio-native Katherine Womack is an apparel, merchandise and product development major in her junior season with the Falcons. Academically, Womack carries a 3.479 GPA, while she also excels athletically.
Womack earned a personal-best time of 1:54.05 in the 200 free at the MAC Championships. During the regular season, she placed a season-best fifth in the 200 free on three occasions. She finished second in two events against Youngstown State and placed third in the 200 breaststroke against Akron.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for student-athletes who have excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.
