May 05, 2011 | Women's Swimming & Diving
The Bowling Green State University swimming team and head coach Petra Martin are pleased to announce the signing of six recruits who will join the team beginning with the 2011-12 season.
Martin's first signing class as head coach of the Falcons includes student-athletes from three states, as well as an international swimmer from Finland. The incoming freshmen specialize in a variety of events, including backstroke and mid-distance freestyle.
The 2011-12 signees are:
Stephanie Boyle (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Saline H.S.)
Erica Nieminen (Vasa, Finland / Upper Secondary School of Vasa)
Laina Reisenfeld (Oxford, Ohio / Talawanda H.S.)
Allie Reynolds (Port Clinton, Ohio / Port Clinton H.S.)
Haley Roberts (Toledo, Ohio / St. Ursula Academy)
Carmen Young (Manassas, Va. / Osbourn Park H.S.)
Stephanie Boyle is a breaststroke and individual medley specialist. She led Saline High School to Michigan state championships in 2009 and 2010. Boyle has received 11 different All-State honors and is a three-time All-American swimmer.
She is the two-time Southeast Conference breaststroke champion and finished third in the 100 breaststroke at the 2010 Division I state finals. Boyle is also a co-holder of school records in three relay events.
Erica Nieminen specializes in the backstroke and freestyle events. She was a member of the 2010 Finnish national team at Sweden's Stockholm Grand Prix and has won numerous Finnish national championship medals. At the senior championships in 2010, Nieminen won a bronze medal in the 200 backstroke.
In 2009, Nieminen qualified for the senior Finnish championships final in the 200 freestyle. She traveled to Italy for an international competition where she won a bronze, also in the 200 free. She also won her first Grand Prix medal, a bronze in the 200 backstroke, in the same year.
Laina Reisenfeld comes to the Falcons as a sprint freestyler. Reisenfeld has qualified for the Ohio state championships in two consecutive years and is a two-time team Most Valuable Player at Talawanda High School.
She has been named first-time All-Conference in each of her four high school seasons and was nominated twice for FAVC Swimmer of the Year honors. Reisenfeld was also recently named the Talawanda swim team's Captain's Award winner.
Like Reisenfeld, Allie Reynolds is also a sprint freestyler. Reynolds is a multi-sport student-athlete who has qualified for and medaled at Ohio state championships in swimming as well as track and field. During the 2009-10 season, Reynolds swam in four events, including two relays, at the state meet. She finished as high as seventh (400 free relay).
Reynolds is a school-record holder in both the 100 and 200 freestyle events and is currently a swim team captain. In her junior year, she earned the Port Clinton High School Scholar Athlete Award. Reynolds has also been a member of the Port Clinton Piranha USA Swim Club for the last several years.

Haley Roberts is a backstroke and mid-distance specialist. At St. Ursula, Roberts set personal-best times in the 200 free and 200 IM. She owns the number one time in the 500 freestyle among northwest Ohio Division I swimmers, and she claims the same in the 100 backstroke.
The 100 backstroke time was set as Roberts finished tenth overall at the 2011 Ohio state championships.
Carmen Young primarily swims the breaststroke and individual medley. She has been a district, regional and Virginia state AAA finalist from 2008-2010 and is a co-owner of the school record in the 200 freestyle relay. Young is also an All-American 400 freestyle relay member.
Young owns OCCS records in the 100 and 200 breaststroke for 15-16 and 17-18 year olds, as well as 200 and 400 IM records (15-16). She was the 2010 Most Outstanding Swimmer for the OCCS and has been a junior national qualifier (2009-11) and a Speedo LCM sectional finalist (2009-10).
Coach Martin said, “I am very excited about the incoming class and feel that these student-athletes will be able to fill in some gaps and build upon the success that we had this year. I am looking forward to welcoming them all here in the fall.”
