BGSU Earns a Third-Straight Top-15 Ranking
The Bowling Green State University women's basketball team – having won Mid-American Conference championships in each of the last seven seasons – obviously had yet another successful season on the court in 2010-11. And, head coach Curt Miller's program had another highly-successful campaign in the classroom as well, having earned national recognition for the third consecutive year.
The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) has announced its 2010-11 Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll, and BGSU is ranked 11th in the entire nation on the NCAA Division I list. The announcement marks the third-straight year that the Falcons are in the top 15. BG was ranked fifth on the 2008-09 list and sixth on last year's chart.
The WBCA awards recognized teams throughout the country that have the highest grade point averages (GPA) for the 2010-11 season based upon nominations submitted by WBCA-member coaches.
Miller's Falcons had a team GPA of 3.433 for the '10-11 campaign. BGSU is one of only two Mid-American Conference programs on the list, and the Falcons are one of four programs from the state of Ohio in the Division-I Top 25. Dayton ranked ninth, Akron 14th and Youngstown State 17th on the list.
On the hardwood, BGSU won MAC's East Division championship, marking the seventh consecutive season that the Falcons had won a conference regular-season crown of some sort. The Brown and Orange posted a 13-3 league mark, then won the MAC Tournament title to advance to the NCAA Championships for the fifth time in seven seasons. The 2010-11 campaign marked BGSU's seventh-straight season with a national postseason appearance.
The Falcons are one of seven schools to make an appearance in the 2011 NCAA Championships and on the WBCA Top 25 Team Honor Roll. The other such schools are South Dakota State (1st on the WBCA list), DePaul (3rd), Hartford (7th), Dayton, Montana (13th) and Green Bay (19th).
BGSU made the list for the fourth time in the last five seasons. In addition to each of the last three years, the Falcons also made the WBCA Top 25 Team Honor Roll in 2006-07 (23rd, 3.300 GPA).
