FIRST ROUND RESULTS (.pdf)
HINCKLEY, Ohio -- Aided by two top-five individual performances, the Bowling Green State University women's golf team completed the first round of the 2011 Cleveland State Invitational in second place.as it seeks its first team runner-up-or-better finish in two years.
The Falcons ended play with a composite 319 on Monday at Hinckley, Ohio's Pine Hills Golf Club. The team trails tournament-leader Oakland by 12 strokes. If they are able to make up that difference during Tuesday's final round, it would be the program's first team victory since 2008's Falcon Invitational.
Bowling Green leads third-place Cleveland State by one stroke. Youngstown State and St. Francis (Pa.) are tied for fourth place, five strokes behind BGSU.
Bailey Arnold and Paula DiFrancesco lead the Falcon contingent with matching rounds of 77. The duo are tied for fifth place overall. They trail the tournament leader, Oakland's Kassandra Komma, by five strokes. Ann Colligan of St. Francis resides in second place, four strokes ahead of Arnold and DiFrancesco.
Shelby Wilson and Amy Ruthenberg are also in the top half of the 61-player field. Wilson shot an 82 on Monday to tie for 24th, while Ruthenberg is tied for 27th after carding an 83.
In their first action of the season, Kelsey Benson and Jen Blanchard are tied for 36th after each finished the first round with an 86. Patricia Holt, who (like Blanchard) is playing as an individual, played Monday's 18 holes to the tune of 85, which earned a tie for 33rd place.
The final round begins with a 9:00 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday (Sept. 27). Final tournament results will be posted to BGSUFalcons.com after the conclusion of play.
