Redshirt soph is averaging a double-double in conference games
Bowling Green State University women's basketball standout Alexis Rogers has been named Mid-American Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday (Jan. 16). Rogers, a redshirt sophomore, earns the honor for the second time.
Rogers, a native of West Chester, Ohio (Lakota West H.S), averaged 17.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game as the Falcons won a pair of games to improve to a perfect 4-0 in the MAC. She led the team in both scoring and rebounding on the week, as BGSU won by an average of 16 points per game.
Rogers, a transfer from Duke Univ., shot 50 percent from the field in the two wins, which came against Ohio and Buffalo. She was perfect from three-point land on the week, going 2-for-2.
The forward had 15 points and 11 rebounds in BG's 61-49 win over Ohio at the Stroh Center on Thursday night (Jan. 12). The double-double was her third in as many games, the longest streak by a BGSU player since 1998.
Then, Rogers scored 19 points in just 21 minutes in the Falcons' 79-59 win at UB on Sunday (Jan. 15), adding seven boards. She was 7-of-12 from the floor and 4-of-5 from the free-throw line in that win, and scored eight consecutive points during BGSU's 14-0 second-half run that put the game away.
In her first playing season at BGSU, Rogers is averaging 11.3 points and 8.2 rebounds per game, leading the team in boards and ranking second in scoring. In MAC games, she paces the Falcons in both categories, and is averaging a double-double, with 19.0 points and 10.8 rebounds per contest. Rogers is shooting a BG-best 52.6% from the floor in the four MAC games to date.
Rogers earned this week's MAC Player-of-the-Week honor for the East Division. Tavelyn James of Eastern Michigan was named the MAC P-O-W in the West.
The Falcons of head coach Curt Miller, 14-3 overall, head to Oxford for a Thursday (Jan. 19) matchup with Miami University. The RedHawks are also 14-3 overall and 4-0 in conference contests. Following the Miami game, the Brown and Orange will return home for Sunday's (Jan. 22) game vs. EMU.
