Reviewing The All-Ohio Championships

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio. -- The Bowling Green State University men's and women's cross country teams competed at the All-Ohio Championships last Saturday, showcasing a number of new Falcon runners. The men placed ninth in the DI bracket, earning a team score of 256, and collective time of 2:14:46.82 in the 8K run. The women did not compete in the team championships, but faired well in the individual 5K Open race.
Senior Josh Franek finished top among the Bowling Green men for the second-straight meet, finishing the 8-kilometer trot in 26:27.11 for a 43rd place finish. Freshman Brian Coleman followed Franek with a 49th place finish, completing the course in 26:43.06. Fellow freshman Tim Jurick (54th place) completed the course in 26:56.54, while sophomore Tom Hipwell (27:04.26) and junior Perry Fraylick (27:35.85) rounded out the Falcons' top five finishers. Hipwell's finish marks a career best, edging out his 8K time of 27:24 at the Ball State Invitational last season.
The women did not compete in the team race, but sent a number of new faces into the 5K Open. Freshmen Emma Mirwaldt (19:11.43) and Becca Rae (19:14.53) led the way for the Falcons in their first collegiate action, finishing 10th and 11th respectively. Unattached freshman Kelsey Cogan wasn't far behind in the 12th spot, finishing the course in 19:19.60. Freshman Maria Meredith finished the course in 19:28.96, earning a 15th place finish in her Bowling Green debut. Freshman Amanda Garlak also competed wearing the Orange and Brown for the first time, finishing in 19:34.08 for a 17th place finish.
