BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Bowling Green State University swim team members Alexis Kain and Alexa Harris each recorded times that eclipsed the NCAA B standard - a provisional qualifying time to the NCAA Championships.
Kain swam a season-best 1:02.10 to win the 100-yard breaststroke at the Northwestern TYR Invitational, finishing ahead of the B standard of 1:02.49. Kain's time ranks as the 37th fastest in the nation this year, according to CollegeSwimming.com.
Harris also made her cut at the TYR Invitational, finishing first in the 200-yard backstroke. Her time of 1:58.99 meets the B standard of 1:59.19 and ranks her 46th in the nation in the event.
Bowling Green's relays also rank well after dominating the preseason Tom Stubbs Relays and winning three of five relays at the TYR Invitational. The Falcons are ranked 32st in the 400 medley relay (3:44.96), 35th in the 200 freestyle relay (1:33.70) and 36th in the 200 medley relay (1:42.81).
The Falcons are coming off an impressive showing at the TYR Invitational, finishing third of six teams with six event wins and numerous athletes swimming season- or career bests. The team is back in action Thursday, Nov. 29-Dec. 1 at the U.S. Short Course Nationals in Austin, Texas.
