Baseball: Previewing The 2012 Outfielders
February 14, 2012 | Baseball
The 2012 outfield is the youngest position for the Falcons this upcoming season, but perhaps also the most experienced. With three sophomores returning who started over 20 games a season ago, the outfield will be quite competitive this season.
Sophomore Andrew Kubuski returns after starting 44 games during his freshman season. He batted .267 with nine doubles, two triples, two home runs, and 23 RBI. Kubuski also had two outfield assists on the season.
Sophomore Alex Davsion started 30 games in 2011, while appearing in 42. He his .266 with 11 RBI, while stealing five bases. He also had two outfield assists.
Sophomore Patrick Lancaster returns after starting 20 games during his freshman season. He hit .230 in his 28 appearances.
Sophomore Jake Thomas returns after a freshman season in which he saw action in 17 games. Thomas, who was used in defensive situations, did not make an error in 2011.
Freshman Jesse Rait really added to the competition in the outfield when he joined the team this past fall. Rait, coming off of a state championship in high school last spring, is expected to compete for considerable playing time, and possibly a starting job this season.
The Falcons open up the season on Saturday when they take on the Jayhawks of Kansas at 11:30 EST, from Nashville, Tennessee.
