Falcons Fly To Stillwater For Weekend Series With Oklahoma State
February 23, 2012 | Baseball
The Bowling Green State University baseball team will head to Stillwater, Okla. this weekend for a three-game set with the Oklahoma State Cowboys. The Falcons enter the weekend at 0-2, while the Cowboys come in a 2-3.
The Starting Lineup
1. The Falcons will enter the contest with an 0-2 record, having lost to Kansas and Saint Louis this past weekend.
2. The Cowboys and Falcons have met one other time in program history, an 11-2 Oklahoma State win in 1985.
3. Sophomore designated hitter Logan Walker could be in the midst of a breakout season. He began the season by reaching base via the base hit in four-of-eight at-bats.
4. Junior Cody Apthorpe picked right up where he left off last season. In his first start of 2012, Apthorpe went five innings allowing just one earned run on two hits. He also struck out four.
5. The Falcons will look to stop an early season slump this weekend against the Cowboys. The Falcons have lost at least five straight to begin every season since 2009.
6. The Falcons, after having been defeated by Kansas this past weekend, will look to pick up their first win versus Big Twelve competition in program history when they play the Cowboys this weekend.
7. Multiple Falcons made their first career appearances over the weekend. Freshman Jesse Rait and Brian Bien got opening weekend starts, as well as senior Tyler Wynn. Freshmen Clay Rolf, Trevor Blaylock, and Jason Link all made their first appearances as Falcons this weekend, as well.
8. The Falcons started eight underclassmen in their opening game against the Kansas Jayhawks. Sophomore T.J. Losby started behind the dish, sophomore Jeremy Shay got the start at first, redshirt freshman got the nod at short, sophomore Andrew Kubuski started in left, true freshman Jesse Rait was the opening day starter in center, sophomore Patrick Lancaster started in right, while designated hitter Logan Walker, a sophomore, brings the total to eight underclassmen receiving starts against the Jayhawks.
9. Clay Rolf, a first baseman for the Falcons, does it all. He is also a member of the Falcon football team, making him the only Bowling Green State University male student-athlete to play two sports. Clay has one career reception as a tight end, and, with his hit this past weekend, now has one career hit in as many at-bats.
