Falcons Head To Dayton For Midweek Showdown
February 27, 2012 | Baseball
The Bowling Green State University baseball team will travel to play University of Dayton on Tuesday afternoon in the first midweek matchup of the season. The Falcons and Flyers will meet for the 62nd time in program history, with the Falcons holding a 41-20 advantage in the all-time series. The Flyers got the best of the Falcons last season, however, defeating the Falcons by a score of 13-2 at Steller Field.
The Flyers will enter the matchup with a record of just 1-4, while the Falcons come in with an 0-5 mark. The Flyers got their first win of the season this weekend at High Point, but still dropped two-of-three. The game will be the Flyers' home-opener at Time Warner Cable Stadium.
The Falcons will start redshirt senior Matt Malewitz on the mound on Tuesday, which will be his first start of the season. He has pitched one inning in relief this season, allowing one run against the Billikens of Saint Louis. The Falcons top hitter to this point is sophomore catcher T.J. Losby. Losby will enter Tuesday's game with a .571 average, and will put his team-high five game hitting streak on the line.
The Flyers will start Parker Schrage on the mound. He is a junior right-handed pitcher. He enters the contest with an 2.08 ERA, but has suffered the loss in both relief appearances this far. The Flyers top hitter is Bobby Glover, a senior outfielder from Fort Wayne, Ind. He enters Tuesday's contest with a .364 average, having started all five games for the Flyers.
The Falcons and Flyers will play a 3 pm contest from Time Warner Cable Stadium.
