BGSU Softball To Compete In The Under Armour Invitational

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio. -- The Falcons continue to roll in the early part of the season, coming off a 2-2 weekend at the Hilltopper Classic. Bowling Green opened the tournament with two losses, dropping a 4-3 decision to Indiana State, before falling to host Western Kentucky 5-1. The Falcons responded the following day with two straight wins, defeating Morehead State 6-3, before coming from behind to beat Murray State 6-4.

This weekend, Bowling Green heads to Clearwater, Fla. to compete in the Under Armour Invitational. The Falcons will take on St. Francis and Quinnipiac on Friday, followed by a pair of games against Bethune-Cookman and Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday. The Falcons will close out the trip with another game against St. Francis on Sunday.

- Paige Berger and Katie Yoho are now tied for the team lead in home runs, with three this season.
- Paige Berger's home run in the 6-3 win over Morehead State gives her 26 for her career, tying her for second on the Bowling Green all time list. Berger is now tied with Gina Rango, who played for Bowling Green from 2003-06.
- Hannah Fulk failed to record a hit in the Falcons 6-4 win over Murray State, snapping her six-game hitting streak. Sunday marked the first time Fulk has failed to record a hit in a game this season.
- The Falcons' two wins on Sunday are the first back-to-back wins of the season.
- Paige Berger and Katie Yoho were named to the All Tournament Team.
- Junior Andrea Arney hit her first home run of the season in the Falcons 5-1 loss to Western Kentucky, giving her five total in her BG career.
- Freshman Paris Imholz suffered her first career loss to Western Kentucky over the last weekend. Imholz is now 2-1 on the season.
- Only four Falcon position players have failed to record a hit so far this season. Freshman Emily McClelland and sophomore Adrienne Dick are hitless in nine at-bats, while freshman Shelby Fink is hitless in six. Sophomore Courtney Cox is hitless in her only plate appearance this season.
- Bowling Green has dominated the opening frame, scoring nine runs combined in the first inning, while only allowing three. The fifth inning is even better for the Falcons, with a total of nine runs scored, and only one run allowed.

- Quinnipiac finished fourth in the Northeast Conference last season, going 13-7 in conference. The Bobcats finished with an overall record of 32-26.
The Bobcats went undefeated in their opening weekend at the Longwood Spring Classic on Feb. 25-26. QU swept each of its opponents, including Iona and Saint Peter's, in a pair of non-conference games. Quinnipiac defeated Iona, 2-0 and 4-3, and Saint Peter's 14-1 in a five-inning contest and 11-3 in six innings.

Junior Aurelia Gamch paces the Wildcats with a .371 batting average, while fellow junior Lara Reese ranks first in runs (9) and hits (14). Senior Sabrina Ferguson has compiled a team-best 23 total bases and 13 RBI on the year. Despite a 7.36 ERA, sophomore Shanel Tolbert has earned each of Bethune-Cookman's three wins this season after appearing in each of the team's 13 games.

Florida Gulf Coast enters the weekend at 6-9 on the year. The Eagles are led by sophomore Emily Lanier's .364 batting average, while freshman Kelsey Carpenter posts the team's second best batting average at .317. Sophomore Jessica Barnes paces FGCU with 12 runs, while Barnes and Lanier have each contributed a team-best 12 hits. Lanier and Carpenter have eight RBI on the year, while sophomore Tori Williams is 7-for-7 in stolen bases.
