Former Falcon Jon Berti
February 03, 2012 | Baseball
Berti, who was drafted in the 18th round (559 overall) by the Toronto Blue Jays, played his first summer with the Vancouver Canadians of the Northwest Leage. The Canadians won the NWL championship, defeating Eugene and Tri-Cities, with the help Jon's strong play all season long. He made the switch to second base for the Canadians, and didn't disappoint--in the field, nor at the plate. Berti was named the team's offensive player-of-the-year by the Canadians coaching staff, and was also named a Northwest League all-star.
The professional baseball accolades come at no surprise to anybody that watched him play in the orange and brown. Berti was a two-time MAC first-teamer, while also garnering 2010 ABCA/Rawlings All-Mideast first-team recognition.
In three years with the orange and brown, the Falcons never missed a MAC Tournament, and Berti has continued that success into his professional career.
The Troy, Mich. native will look to have a good spring, and possibly end up with the Lansing Lugnuts, a single-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays.
