ROCK HILL, S.C. -- The Bowling Green State University softball team swept the second day of the Adidas Invitational, defeating Gardner Webb 8-0, before dropping Albany 3-2.

The Falcons 8-0 win over Gardner Webb marks their second shutout of the tournament, and fourth of the 2012 season.
Junior Paige Berger continued to roll in the early part of the season, going 3-for-4 with two doubles in the contest.

Sophomore Katie Yoho was excellent as well, going 2-for-2 with a home run and a single, collecting two RBI. Senior Melissa West was a perfect 4-for-4 on the afternoon, while freshman Shelby Fink belted a two-run home run for her first collegiate hit.

“Jamie (Kertes) did a fantastic job on the mound for us,” said head coach Shannon Salsburg when asked about game one. “The offense attacked early and often. We have talked a lot about putting a team away and we finally finished the job.”

Bowling Green opened the second game of the day against Albany by scoring three runs on two hits in the opening frame. With two runners on, Yoho belted a three-run shot to left center, giving Bowling Green the 3-0 lead.

Yoho's team-leading seventh home run of season was all Bowling Green needed, as Albany could only muster two runs in the contest. Freshman Paris Imholz struck out two while only allowing four hits in four innings of work. Freshman Jamie Kertes only allowed two hits in three innings of relief.

“It was great to get on the scoreboard early,” said Salsburg. “We played solid defense and I was happy to see us close out a tight game. It is games like this that will help us as we get closer to the start of the MAC season.”

Bowling Green (10-6) is back in action on Sunday, facing off against St. Johh's University at 10 a.m. in the final game of the Adidas Invitational.
