FAIRFAX, Va. -- The Bowling Green State University softball team defeated host George Mason Friday night, defeating the Patriots 5-1 in the opening game of the Cherry Blossom Classic. Junior Hannah Fulk led the way offensively for the Falcons, going 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. Freshmen Paris Imholz recorded the win, giving up five hits and zero runs in five innings of work.
The Falcons scored four of their five runs in the opening frame on four hits, gaining all the insurance they would need to secure the victory.
Sophomore Katie Yoho and freshman Shelby Fink also had great days at the plate. Yoho went 2-for-3 on the day including a triple, driving in one RBI. Fink was perfect at the plate, going 2-for-2 at the plate with two RBI.
“It was great to jump out to an early lead,” said head coach Shannon Salsburg. “Hannah (Fulk) set the tone in the first inning by leading the game off with a home run. George mason fought back hard but the defense and pitchers found a way to get out of tough situations. This was a solid start to our weekend.”
Bowling Green (11-7) is back in action Saturday morning, facing off against Cornell and Albany State in back-to-back contest.
