ROCK HILL, S.C. -- The Bowling Green State University softball team lost to St. John's Sunday afternoon, falling to the Red Storm 3-2 in the final game of the Adidas Invitational. Junior Andrea Arney led the way for Bowling Green offensively, going 1-for-3 with a home run and an RBI. Freshman Jamie Kertes started the contest, giving up six hits and three runs in four innings of work.
Bowling Green got the scoring started, bringing in a run in the top of the first. Sophomore Katie Yoho singled with two runners on, bringing home pinch-runner Emily McClelland.
St. John's came out with in the bottom of the first, scoring all of their runs in the opening frame. The Red Storm scored three runs on four hits in the inning, putting the score at 3-1 in favor of St. John's.
Bowling Green attempted a rally in the bottom of the fourth, but could only muster one run in the frame. Arney led off the inning with her fourth home run of the season, bringing the Falcons within one. Bowling Green was unable to score any more however, securing the 3-2 victory for St. John's.
Bowling Green (10-7) finished the Adidas Invitational with a 3-2 record, losing both contests by a combined two runs.
The Falcons are back in action next weekend, as they will compete in the Cherry Blossom Classic in Fairfax, Va.
