BOWLING GREEN, Ohio. -- The Bowling Green State University softball team will close out their home schedule this weekend, facing off with Northern Illinois and Western Michigan over a three-day span. The Falcons will open with a doubleheader against the Huskies on Friday, before finishing out a two-game set with the Broncos through Saturday and Sunday. Bowling Green failed to secure a victory against both schools last season, going 0-1 against NIU, and 0-2 against WMU. This marks the first return to Bowling Green for the Huskies and Broncos since the 2010 campaign, when the Falcons split the season series, and finished with a 1-1 record against both schools.
The Orange and Brown finished last week with a 4-0 mark, pulling off back-to-back sweeps against Eastern Kentucky at home, and Toledo on the road. The brooms were busy to start this week as well, with the Falcons completing a third consecutive sweep against Oakland University on Monday at Meserve Field. Bowling Green's back-to-back shutout victories against Oakland pushed the Falcons' current win streak to a season-high six games, a streak the Orange and Brown look to add to as they head back into MAC play.
MAC Player Of The Week Nominee
Junior Paige Berger (Rootstown, Ohio) went 5-for-15 (.333) this past week, including a home run and two doubles. Berger's five RBI led the Falcons, and helped Bowling Green to 4-0 record, including a sweep over MAC foe Toledo on the road. Berger also led the Falcons in total bases (10) and slugging percentage (.667), while also completing two steals in two attempts on the base paths. Berger's home run marked her fourth of the season and 27th of her career, ranking her second on the all-time Bowling Green home run list. She needs only six more home runs to break the all-time home run record.
MAC Pitcher Of The Week Nominee
Paris Imholz, Bowling Green, Fr., P, Antioch, Calif. / Antioch
Freshman Paris Imholz (Antioch, Calif.) extended her five-game win streak this past week, posting two complete-game victories against Eastern Kentucky and Toledo. Imholz allowed just two earned runs in 18.0 innings of work, holding batters to just nine hits and a .153 batting average. Imholz did not walk a single batter during the week, while her 0.78 ERA was aided by eight strikeouts. Imholz also added two saves in relief.
- Bowling Green's record sits at 31-16 overall, marking the first time softball has hit the 30-win plateau since 2007. The team finished that season with a record 33-12. The Bowling Green record for most wins in a season is 37, set in 1992 and 2006.
- Junior Hannah Fulk is one walk away from tying Hayley Wiemer for most walks in single season. Fulk has earned 36 walks this season.
- The Falcons now have four players with 20 RBI or more. Andrea Arney (36), Katie Yoho (29), Paige Berger (28) and Hannah Fulk (20) have all reached the 20 RBI plateau.
- Freshmen Paris Imholz and Jamie Kertes have both played in the exact same number of innings this season. Both have played in exactly 152.1 innings. Imholz is currently riding a six-game winning streak, while Kertes is on a three-game winning streak.
- Junior Paige Berger is currently on a six-game hitting streak, dating back to the Falcons 3-2 loss to Central Michigan on April 15.
- The Falcons are on a record pace, earning 19 more wins than last year. This year's team has already earned 31 victories, compared to last season's 12-win effort. The Falcons have experienced a bigger improvement than any other team in college softball to this point.
- Head coach Shannon Salsburg's 121 victories now rank third on the Bowling Green all-time win list. Salsburg only trails Jacquie Joseph (136) and Leigh Ross (237) on the all-time list.
