Chiricosta, a native of Avon Lake, Ohio (Avon Lake H.S.), earned the honor after going 3-1 in last weekend's matches, as the Falcons split a pair of 4-3 results on the road. On Friday (April 20) at Eastern Michigan, Chiricosta teamed with fellow sophomore Emily Reuland for a 9-8 doubles win over EMU's Miriam Westerink/Nino Mebuke team at the top doubles flight, then went on to post a three-set victory over Westerink at the second singles flight.
At Toledo on Saturday afternoon (April 21), Chiricosta and Reuland saw a five-match winning streak come to an end with a doubles loss to the Rockets. But, Chiricosta increased her winning streak to five matches in singles play with a dominant 6-2, 6-1 win over Pia Rygh at flight No. 2. That was the 50th singles victory of her career.
On the season, Chiricosta now has 44 total wins, good for second on the team. With a 22-9 singles record and a 22-10 doubles mark, she is second on the Falcons in both singles wins and doubles victories.
Chiricosta finished MAC play with a 6-2 record in singles matches, and she teamed with Reuland for an identical 6-2 mark in conference doubles contests. In her career, Chiricosta – again, just a sophomore – now has 97 career victories, ranking her 25th in BGSU program history.
Chiricosta also won MAC P-O-W honors on Jan. 26, after helping the Brown and Orange to a win at Duquesne in the team's dual-match opener, and again on Feb. 15 after the Falcons nearly upset Michigan State on the road. Wednesday's honor is the Falcons' fourth of the season, as Reuland was named the MAC Player of the Week two weeks ago (April 11) after posting a perfect 6-0 record in three BGSU wins.
Chiricosta and the Falcons (9-9, 4-4 MAC) head to DeKalb, Ill., for this weekend's MAC Championships, beginning with Friday's (April 27) quarterfinal-round match vs. Eastern Michigan University.
