BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- On Thursday (April 26), the website CollegeSwimming.com announced its annual Mid-Major All-American Team. Two members of the Bowling Green State University swimming team -- Alexa Harris and Alexis Kain -- have been named to the honorable mention portion of the squad.
At the 2012 MAC Championships, Kain won a silver medal in the 100-yard breaststroke and shattered her own BGSU record by finishing in 1:01.61. She also won the silver medal in the 200 breaststroke with a season-best time of 2:14.06. Kain swam a career-best 0:23.87 in the 50-yard freestyle and swam the second leg for both the 200 freestyle and 400 medley relay teams, each of which set new BGSU records.
During the regular season, Kain swept the breaststroke events at the TPSC Invitational at Kenyon College and swept the events in three different dual meets. Overall, she finished first or second in all 18 breaststroke races during the 2011-12 season.
Harris is a first-time member of the Mid-Major All-American team and had her best season as a Falcon. At the MAC Championships, she posted a fourth place finish in the 200-yard backstroke by setting a new BGSU record. The new record mark is 1:58.73. Harris was just 0.26 seconds behind the bronze medalist in the event.
During the regular season, Harris swam on five different winning medley relay teams and won the 200 backstroke four times. That total included a victory at the TPSC Invitational, where she also finished third in the 100 backstroke. She also won the 200 IM at BGSU's dual meet against Miami. For the entire season, Harris finished in the top three of 20 individual races.
