Waller Finishes 34th In 2012 Open Water National Championships

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Emily Waller, a redshirt sophomore on the Bowling Green State University swimming team, competed on Sunday (April 29) at the 2012 United States Open Water National Championships. The race, as well as other corresponding events, was held in Fort Myers, Fla. at Miromar Lake.
Waller swam in the 5-kilometer race. To qualify, she had to beat the required time of 17:39.99 in a 1650-yard freestyle race this season. Waller accomplished qualifying times twice -- first, at the TPSC Invitational last December (17:10.11), and then again at the Mid-American Conference Championships (17:20.79).
Waller finished Sunday's race in 34th place among the 53 swimmers to complete the course. Her official time was 1:06:51.036. She finished within one minute of the top ten. The winning time was 0:58.54.179.
