RICHMOND, Ky. -- The Bowling Green State University women's golf team continues its march toward the 2012 Mid-American Conference Championships as they take a two-day trip this weekend to Eastern Kentucky University for the 19th EKU Lady Colonel Classic.
The 54-hole event will be held at the Arlington Golf Club, which features a par-72 course that has a playing distance of 5,809 yards. The tournament features a field of 13 teams from 12 schools. Tournament host EKU will field two teams. BGSU will be one of five MAC schools at the event -- also competing are Akron, Ball State, Ohio and Toledo.
The other six competing institutions are: Austin Peay, Dayton, Ferris State, Morehead State, Tennessee State and Western Kentucky.
The Falcons' lineup this weekend begins with freshman sensation Shelby Wilson. Wilson, who is in the number one spot for the first time, ranks second on the team in scoring average (78.73) and is coming off of a top-30 finish at the Low Country Intercollegiate.
Team scoring leader Bailey Arnold will be second. Arnold will be looking to rebound from an uncharacteristic 167 (83-84) in her last event.
Patricia Holt, also a freshman, occupies the third spot in the lineup. Holt has posted her best back-to-back tournament results in her last two events and owns 13th and 22nd-place finishes as a result. She led the team at the Low Country Intercollegiate with a 159 (79-80).
Team captain Amy Ruthenberg and senior Paula DiFrancesco round out BGSU's team effort. Kelsey Benson will compete as an individual; this will be her third tournament of the season and first since finishing the Zippy Invitational with a final-round 82.
The tournament's first two rounds will be played on Friday (April 6) beginning with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. The final round will take place on Saturday (April 7) with tee times again beginning at 8:30 a.m.; final round times will be determined by tournament standings.
Live scoring will be available through Golfstat, and it can be accessed here.
