Richaun Holmes Named NJCAA All-American
April 09, 2012 | Men's Basketball
Moraine Valley Community College's Richaun Holmes, who will play men's basketball at Bowling Green State University during the 2012-13 season, was named a National Junior College Athletic Association Division II All-American. He is the first Moraine Valley Community College player to earn the honor under head coach Dedrick Shannon, who was named Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Co-Coach of the Year.
“We are very happy and excited for Richaun on being selected first team All-American,” BGSU men's basketball coach Louis Orr said. “Moraine Valley had a terrific season and he and Coach Shannon both earned well-deserved honors. Richaun is a positive addition to our family as he not only adds talent and potential, but outstanding character, work ethic and team play.”
Holmes led the country in shot-blocking with 169, an average of 5.6 per game. He also averaged 18.4 points while shooting 62 percent from the floor, fourth-best in the nation. Holmes nearly averaged a double-double with 9.2 rebounds per game and made 78 percent of his free-throws. He was chosen an All-American from nearly 200 junior colleges in Division II.
Holmes will enter BGSU with three years of eligibility remaining in 2012-13. He will join a team that went 16-16 in 2011-12 and earned a bit to the CollegeInsider.com Tournament (CIT) in the postseason.
