As an academic all-district first-team pick, Beatty is now eligible for the Capital One Academic All-America® Team. Her name will be placed on the national ballot.
The redshirt junior, a native of Indiana, Pa. (Indiana Senior H.S.), set career-best times and earned spots in the consolation finals for the 100- and 200-yard freestyle at the 2012 MAC Championships. She also set a career-best mark (56.92) in the 100 yard backstroke at the conference meet.
At December's TPSC Invitational at Kenyon College, Beatty had top-ten finishes in both the 100 backstroke and 200 freestyle. In dual meet action, she won the 200 freestyle against Youngstown State with a time of 1:55.54. Overall, she finished third or better six times in dual meets.
Beatty was named to the Academic All-MAC team last month, earning that honor for the second consecutive season. She became the first BGSU swimmer to be named to the Academic All-MAC team in back-to-back years in nearly two decades (since Jenny Kent in 1991-92 and 1992-93).
In the classroom, Beatty maintains a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade-point average as an physical education teacher education major.
The Capital One Academic All-District® Men's and Women's At-Large Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, have been released to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Capital One became the entitlement rights holder to CoSIDA's Academic All-America teams programs in 2011.
The Academic All-District® teams include the student-athletes listed on the links at the top of this page, and are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada.
This is the first year of the expanded Academic All-America® program as CoSIDA moves from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non Division I) and doubles the number of scholar-athletes honored. The teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
The Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
