Bowling Green State University women's basketball coach Jennifer Roos has announced the addition of Miriam Justinger (Sylvania, Ohio) to the program. Justinger, an all-state first-team selection, will join the Falcon program for the 2012-13 academic year.
“We are ecstatic to have Miriam join our program,” said Roos. “She is a natural fit for our system and our culture at Bowling Green. Not only is she a great competitor who will continue to excel on the court, but she is an outstanding student with high character. I fully anticipate Miriam to make a positive and immediate impact in our community and with our loyal fan base.”
Justinger, a 6-0 guard/forward, is currently in her senior year at Sylvania Northview High School, under coach Jerry Sigler. She was named to the All-Ohio Division-I First Team in March, after leading the Northern Lakes League in scoring with 19.6 points per game. Justinger also had 4.9 rebounds and 3.9 assists for the Wildcats en route to being named District Player of the Year.
In her senior season, Justinger led Northview to a 21-2 overall record, a third consecutive NLL title (with a 14-0 league record) and a trip to the district finals. She was named The Blade's female Player of the Year.
In her junior year, Justinger averaged 16.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists and was named to the All-Ohio Third Team and the All-NLL and all-district first teams.
Justinger finished her career with 1,109 career points. She reached the 1,000-point mark in February of 2012, while scoring a game-high 21 points in a win over arch-rival Southview. Justinger recently played in the Ohio North-South Division I-II All-Star Game at Capital, and also played in the Ohio-Indiana Border Wars All-Star Game.
Justinger joins Bailey Cairnduff (Morley, Mich.) in the incoming freshman class for Roos and the Falcons. BGSU, winners of at least one Mid-American Conference title in each of the last eight seasons, finished the 2011-12 season with an overall record of 24-7 and a MAC mark of 14-2. The Falcons won the league regular-season title outright and advanced to national postseason play for an eighth-straight year with a trip to the WNIT. Roos was named head coach of the Falcons on April 16, 2012 after spending 11 years as an assistant coach on the BGSU staff, the last eight as associate head coach.
