Bowling Green State University swimmers Alexis Kain and Amanda Rom competed in the 100-meter breaststroke heats at the U.S. Olympic Trials at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha, Neb. Kain finished 84th out of 152 total competitors in the event, while Rom was 102nd.
Kain swam a time of 1:12.25 in her heat on Tuesday, while Rom finished in a time of 1:12.81. Kain also swam on Wednesday in the time trials, and was third of 12 competitors with a 1:12.82 time.
"We had pretty good swims," said Falcon head coach Petra Martin. "Both Alexis and Amanda looked good, and we were happy about their swims.
"The atmosphere is absolutely amazing, with a full 18,000-seat arena, light shows, loud music and pyrotechnic effects. It is like a huge rock concert. It is very exciting, and such a great promotion for our sport and our athletes."
One more BGSU swimmer will compete at the trials. Alexa Harris will swim in the 200-meter backstroke on Saturday (June 30). The semifinals in the 200 back are set for Saturday evening, with the finals scheduled for Sunday (July 1).
