Beatty is the first BGSU swimmer to earn Academic All-America honors in six years, since Jessica Guinness was named to the second team in 2005-06.
Beatty, a native of Indiana, Pa. (Indiana Senior H.S.), set career-best times and earned spots in the consolation finals for the 100- and 200-yard freestyle at the 2012 MAC Championships. The redshirt junior also set a career-best mark (56.92) in the 100 yard backstroke at the conference meet.
At December's TPSC Invitational at Kenyon College, Beatty had top-ten finishes in both the 100 backstroke and 200 freestyle. In dual meet action, she won the 200 freestyle against Youngstown State with a time of 1:55.54. Overall, she finished third or better six times in dual meets.
Beatty was named to the Academic All-MAC team in 2011-12, earning that honor for the second consecutive season. She became the first BGSU swimmer to be named to the Academic All-MAC team in back-to-back years in nearly two decades (since Jenny Kent in 1991-92 and 1992-93).
In the classroom, Beatty maintains a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade-point average as an physical education teacher education major.
The Capital One Academic All-America® Men's and Women's At-Large Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 15,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
The Academic All-District® At-Large teams were announced on May 17, and are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. The district first-team selections, including Beatty, were placed on the ballot for All-America consideration.
This is the first year of the expanded Academic All-America® program as CoSIDA moves from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non Division I) and doubles the number of scholar-athletes honored. The teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
