July 01, 2012 | Women's Swimming & Diving
Bowling Green State University swimmer Alexa Harris competed in the 200-meter backstroke at the U.S. Olympic Trials at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha, Neb., over the weekend. Harris finished 135th out of 190 total competitors in the event.
Harris swam a time of 2:19.87 in her heat on Saturday, and her finish was roughly 30 spots better than her initial seed.
"The Olympic Trials was a very positive experience for us," said Falcon head coach Petra Martin. "It has been a pleasure and an honor to be part of this. It was very motivational for our swimmers, and educational as well.
"Being around and swimming with the best swimmers in the world gives you the opportunity to see things from different perspective. They had a chance to learn a thing or two about competitions of this magnitude. They had a chance to see how the best take care of their racing, how they deal with the up and downs of their performances, how they prepare and perform under such pressure and in an environment of 15,000 fans and cameras from all corners.
"It is also a great promotion of our sport. I am glad that our athletes had a chance to experience such excitement for the sport of swimming and see that there is a big fan base and a lot of support for our sport all over the country."
Harris was the third and final BGSU swimmer to compete at the trials. Both Alexis Kain and Amanda Rom competed in the 100-meter breaststoke earlier in the week.
