August 14, 2012 | Women's Soccer
Bowling Green State University women's soccer senior Sarah VonderBrink has been named to the College Sports Madness Preseason All-Mid-American Conference First Team. The web site announced the preseason all-league first and second teams Tuesday (Aug. 14).
VonderBrink, a native of Kettering, Ohio (Fairmont H.S.), enters her senior season with career totals of 15 points on four goals and seven assists. Three of those four goals have been game-winning goals. Additionally, she scored what proved to be the winning goal with just 6:47 gone in Saturday afternoon's (Aug. 11) scrimmage vs. Indiana State at Cochrane Field. VonderBrink added an assist on the final goal of the Falcons' 3-0 win over the Sycamores.
VonderBrink finished second on the team in scoring last year, with her six points including a BGSU-best four assists. The six-point total is tops among BGSU's 2012 returnees. Her lone goal of the season proved to be the winner in a 1-0 victory at Cleveland State, and three of her assists came in victories, including a pair of helpers in the 89th minute or later of wins against Youngstown State and Buffalo.
As a sophomore in 2010, VonderBrink tied for fourth on the team in scoring, with seven points. She had game-winning goals on back-to-back Sundays, in victories against CSU and ISU. VonderBrink has played in a total of 53 career matches at BGSU, making 23 starts.
