Cross Country Hits The Road For UB Stampede Invitational

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio. – The Bowling Green State University men's and women's cross country teams hit the road this weekend, competing at the Buffalo Stampede Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 15. The event, hosted by the University at Buffalo, will feature a 5K race for the women starting at noon, and an 8K race for the men starting at 12:45 p.m. The UB Stampede Invite will be the first of two meets that the Bulls will host at Beaver Island this season. The MAC Cross Country Championships will be held at the site on Oct. 27.
The Falcons will face off against MAC rivals Buffalo and Akron, as well as Niagara, Robert Morris and Colgate's men's team.
The Orange and Brown are coming off of a collective second place finish at the Mel Brodt Collegiate Opener (5K) two weeks ago, placing ahead of Ball State and Eastern Michigan on the women's side. Toledo took the top spot in both genders.
Redshirt junior Abby Koch paced the BG women with a seventh place finish, completing the course in 18:58.00. Redshirt freshman Andrea Alt earned a tenth place finish with a time of 19:14.90, while sophomore transfer Kendra Kezur (19:20.90) followed closely with a 16th place finish. Redshirt freshmen Jasmine Redman (19:55.20) and Megan Monte (20:46.50) rounded out the Falcons top five, earning 23rd and 36th place, respectively.
Freshman Tim Jurick led the men with a ninth place finish, completing the 5,000-kilometer race in 16:46.50. Junior Joe van Bolderon (17:17.20) and freshman Brian Coleman (17:21.00) followed Jurick with a top 20 finish, earning 13th and 14th place, respectively. Sophomore Tom Hipwell and junior Perry Fraylick rounded out the top five Bowling Green finishers.
Looking At The MAC Competition
Akron swept the women's 5K competition in dual-meet scoring at the 44th running of the Tommy Evans Invitational last weekend. The Zips placed five runners in the top 12, paced by Maria Moore, who finished first among 47 runners with a time of 18:34. The Akron men were picked to finish seventh, while the women were picked to finish fourth in the MAC Preseason Poll.
Buffalo opened the season two weeks ago at Colgate's Harry Lang Invitational as both squads finished fourth among 11 teams. Junior Zach Ahart, with a 14th-place finish among 106 entrants, was Buffalo's top finisher in 20:36 for 6.4K. In the women's meet, run at 4.2K, the Bulls were fourth, paced by Sophomore Gabby Leo , who finished in 13th place in 16:47. The Buffalo men were picked to finish fifth, while the women were picked to finish ninth in the MAC Preseason Poll.
