September 26, 2012 | Men's Cross Country, Women's Cross Country
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio. -- The Bowling Green State University men's and women's cross country teams are away for a second straight meet this weekend, competing in the All-Ohio Championships on Saturday, Sept. 29. The women will compete in a third straight 5K, starting at 2 p.m. The men will run in their second 8K of the season, set to begin at 2:45 p.m. The meet, hosted by Cedarville University in Cedarville, Ohio, will take place at the Elvin R. King Cross Country Course.
In last year's All-Ohio meet, the men placed 13th as a team, while the women finished in tenth.
Jason Salyer led the Bowling Green men last season, finishing the 8,000-meter race in 25:57.45, securing a 32nd place finish. Several members of the BGSU women's cross country team, who redshirted last season, ran as unattached athletes in the women's open 5,000-meter (5K) race. That group was led by Abby Koch, who won the open event by completing the distance in 18:49.56. She was joined in the top ten by Andrea Alt, who placed sixth in 19:16.78.
Koch has continued to achieve success so far in the young season, placing first among Bowling Green runners in both the Mel Brodt (seventh overall) and the UB Stampede (third overall). Koch set a personal-best 5K time at the UB Stampede, finishing in 18:03.09. In fact, every Falcon participant on the women's side set personal bests at the UB Stampede, securing a second-place finish for the Orange and Brown.

Dave Wottle Returns
Olympic gold medalist Dave Wottle, a 1973 graduate of Bowling Green State University, returns to his alma mater this week to participate in Homecoming festivities.
Wottle will speak at 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, in the Stroh Center for the College of Education and Human Development's “Setting the Pace” lecture series. His presentation, “A Winning Attitude,” is free and open to the public. It will be held on the second-floor mezzanine area of the Stroh Center.
During his collegiate career at BGSU, Wottle earned five NCAA titles in track and the 800-meter crown in the 1972 AAU Championships. His gold medal-winning performance in the 800-meter race in the 1972 Munich Olympics made him an American sports icon.
Following his presentation, he will serve as the parade marshal for the Homecoming Parade, which starts at Mercer Road and Wooster Street at 5 p.m.
