Nikki Chiricosta and Emily Reuland, after drawing a first-round bye in the doubles main draw, defeated the Northwestern duo of Lok Sze Leung and Manon Peri on the second day of the six-day event.
The University of Michigan is hosting this year's regional, which is being held at the Varsity Tennis Center.
The lead changed hands several times in the early going, and the Wildcats held a 5-4 advantage before the Falcons reeled off four-straight games to capture the win.
Chiricosta and Reuland now will face the Michigan duo of Emina Bektas and Brooke Bolender -- the top-seeded team in the doubles bracket -- in the round of 16, which begins Saturday morning (Oct. 12) at 9:00 a.m.
In all, the Falcons combined to go 2-2 in Friday action in Ann Arbor. Both Chiricosta and Reuland were eliminated from the singles qualifying draw in round-of-16 matches, while sophomore Katie Brozovich picked up a win in a consolation match.
Chiricosta fell to Ohio State's Grainne O'Neill, dropping a first-set tiebreaker, while Reuland lost to Jillian Rooney of Northwestern.
Brozovich split a pair of sets with Detroit's Valerie Kulikovskaya, then captured a 10-point tiebreaker which was played in lieu of a third set.
BGSU competitors have combined for an overall record of 6-3 through the first two days of the ITA Midwest Regional Championships.
With three total wins so far in Ann Arbor, Reuland has moved into the top 10 on the BGSU combined career wins list. She now has a total of 144 victories, and has taken over sole possession of eighth place on the school chart.
Chiricosta, who entered the week ranked third in BGSU history in career victories, now has 160 total wins as a Falcon. She sits in sole possession of second place on the career singles wins list, having picked up her 82nd such win on Thursday, and she ranks fourth in doubles victories (78) at the school.
As mentioned, Saturday's doubles play begins at 9:00 a.m. Should Chiricosta and Reuland win their match, they would advance to Sunday (Oct. 13) morning's quarterfinal round.
