November 01, 2013 | Women's Tennis
Hannah Drayton goes undefeated on Friday & is one of four Falcons with 2 wins on the day
FRIDAY'S RESULTS: By Round | By School
Team scores are not kept at the tourney, which includes Ball State, Xavier and host Cincinnati, in addition to the Falcons. The teams are playing a hidden dual format.
On Friday, head coach Penny Dean's club played three doubles matches apiece vs. BSU and UC, and the Falcons played a round of singles vs. XU. In all, BGSU went 6-7 on the day, with Falcon competitors going a perfect 3-0 against the Cardinals in doubles.
Drayton teamed up with fellow freshman Harley Hutchison for an 8-4 doubles win vs. BSU, and she did not lose a game in her Friday singles match. Drayton was the lone Falcon not to face a Xavier player during singles, instead taking on Ball State's Anna Rozenberg, and she won by identical 6-0, 6-0 scores.
Hutchison, senior Nikki Chiricosta and sophomore Katie Brozovich all won two of their three overall matches on Friday. Hutchison won her singles match against Xavier's Lizzie Oosterbaan, losing only five overall games in the process.
Brozovich and Chiricosta teamed up in doubles on Friday and went a perfect 2-0. They defeated a Cincinnati duo by an 8-6 score, and followed that up with an 8-6 victory vs. Ball State.
Senior Emily Reuland and sophomore Drew Fillis lost their opening doubles match by a narrow margin, falling in a tiebreaker vs. a Bearcat team. The Fillis/Reuland tandem bounced back for a convincing 8-3 victory vs. BSU.
Two of BGSU's doubles teams, the Fillis/Reuland combo along with Drayton and Hutchison, were competing together for the first time.
With her two doubles wins on Friday, Chiricosta now has an even 80 doubles victories in her career. She ranks fourth on that school list. Reuland now has 71 career doubles wins, and has moved into a tie for 11th place all-time at BGSU.
On the combined career wins list, Chiricosta ranks third with 162 total victories as a Falcon, while Reuland is eighth with 145 wins.
The UC Invitational concludes on Saturday (Nov. 2) at the Trabert-Tabelrt Tennis Center. Action begins at 10:00 a.m., with the Falcons slated to face Xavier in doubles. Then, the Brown and Orange will meet UC in singles, and the Falcons will close the day by taking on BSU in singles play.
