Falcons Win Three Matches as Fall Schedule Concludes
November 10, 2013 | Women's Tennis
Chiricosta, Drayton, Reuland all post Sunday singles victories

RESULTS: Singles
No team scores were kept at the three-day, seven-team tournament, which included Colorado, Indiana, Louisville, Marquette and Notre Dame, in addition to the Falcons and the host Broncos.
This weekend's tournament utilized the new rules proposed by the NCAA Championships/Sports Management Cabinet, which recommend, among other things, that singles matches use a super tiebreaker (first player to 10 points) in place of a third set, and that competitors play a six-game set in doubles with a tiebreaker at six all.
On Sunday, the Falcons defeated players from Colorado, Louisville and Notre Dame, all in the minimum two sets.
Chiricosta capped her fall schedule with a convincing 6-3, 6-1 win over Nuria Ormeno Ruiz of CU, while Reuland topped UofL's Olivia Boesing. Reuland captured the first set in a tiebreaker before going on to a 6-4 win in the second set.
Drayton went to a tiebreaker in each set vs. UND's Darby Mountford, but the Falcon freshman won each set by identical 6-5 scores, winning a pair of narrow 'breakers.
Sophomore Drew Fillis battled WMU's Yuriko Ono to a tiebreaker in the opening set, before Ono eked out a 6-4 decision in the second set. The loss snapped a four-match singles win streak for Fillis.
Chiricosta solidified her position on several BGSU career wins lists, while Reuland moved up on two lists with her Sunday victory.
Chiricosta ranks second in school history in career singles wins, third in overall wins and fourth in career doubles victories. She now has 168 total victories, including 85 in singles and 83 in doubles. She is just one win shy of second-place Maddy Eccleston on the combined career list, and she is just 10 wins away from tying the school record, held by her sister, Christine Chiricosta (178 overall wins from 2008-11).
Nikki Chiricosta is just four singles wins away from matching her sister's career-record total of 89.
Reuland now has 149 total wins as a Falcon, and has moved into a tie for fifth place on that list. Her singles win on Sunday was the 76th of her career, putting her in a seventh-place tie. She is also tied for seventh on the BGSU career doubles wins list, with 73.
The Falcons are now idle until Jan. 26, 2014, when BGSU hosts Youngstown State in the dual-match opener at the Perrysburg Tennis Center.
