Evanston, Ill. – The Bowling Green swimming team returns to action after 14 days off to swim in the TYR Invitational, hosted by Northwestern University, Friday through Sunday. Swimming events will begin at 10 a.m. ET each day.

ABOUT THE TYR INVITATIONAL
The TYR Invitational will take place over three days with prelims and finals for most events. The Falcons will compete against swimmers from Michigan State, Truman State, Northwestern, Illinois-Chicago, Kenyon College, North Dakota and Missouri State. The Falcons have the top seed in three events heading into the meet – Brittany Szekely in the 50 freestyle and Victoria Griffin in both the 100 and 200 freestyle. LAST TIME OUT
BGSU won seven events and set season-best times in five but Oakland edged the Falcons 150-130 on Nov. 8. Freshman Victoria Griffin won the 100 and 200 freestyle, along with swimming a leg of the winning 400 freestyle relay team. Joëlle Scheps won the 100 butterfly and the 200 individual medley, along with swimming on that victorious 400 freestyle relay squad. Jordan Bullock won the 200 butterfly and Brittany Szekely won the 50 freestyle.
INDIVIDUAL RANKINGS
BGSU is ranked at the top of the MAC, according to CollegeSwimming.com, in one event and is ranked second in three others during the early part of the season. In the 200 freestyle, freshman Victoria Griffin has the top time in the conference with a 1:50.71. Griffin ranks second in the MAC in the 100 freestyle and Brittany Szekely is second in the 50 freestyle. As well, Bowling Green's 200 freestyle relay team is second-best in the conference. TEAM RANKINGS
According to CollegeSwimming.com, BGSU is ranked fourth in the Mid-American Conference at this point in the season, behind top-ranked Miami as well as Eastern Michigan and Toledo. The Falcons are well ahead of Buffalo, Ohio, Ball State and Akron.

UNBEATEN
Freshman Victoria Griffin remains unbeaten in both the 100 and 200 freestyle this year. She is 4-0 in the 100 freestyle and 3-0 in the 200 freestyle. Currently, she ranks at the top of the MAC in the 200 and second in the 100.

SCHEPS NAMED SCHOLAR-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Senior Joëlle Scheps was named the Mid-American Conference's Scholar-Athlete of the Week on Nov. 13 after winning two individual events and racing as part of a winning relay in the team's dual meet at Oakland. Scheps is an individualized business major with a 4.00 grade point average.

GRIFFIN NAMED MAC SWIMMER OF THE WEEK
It hasn't taken long for Victoria Griffin to make her mark in the Mid-American Conference. The freshman earned MAC Swimmer of the Week honors on Nov. 4 after winning three individual events and two relay races in weekend meets against Miami and Xavier.

SZEKELY DOMINATING THE 50 FREESTYLE
Senior Brittany Szekely won the 50 freestyle at Eastern Michigan in a time of 23.67 seconds, a mark which ranks second in the Mid-American Conference this year. She also won the event at Oakland and was the team's top finisher in the sprint against Miami.

400 FREESTYLE RELAY STILL UNBEATEN
Bowling Green has won the 400 freestyle relay in all three dual races in which the event was competed in. Victoria Griffin, Kayla Effinger, Petra Laudova and Brittany Szekely swam a season-best time of 3:29.92 to win at Eastern Michigan, while Effinger, Erica Nieminen, Maya Skorupski and Griffin also won at Xavier in a time of 3:33.61. The team of Griffin, Szekely, Hannah Newman and Joëlle Scheps pushed the season-best time to 3:29.69 in a win at Oakland.
