Salyer Races To All-MAC Honors, Women Finish Top Half

Bowling Green, Ohio – Jason Salyer became the first Bowling Green men's cross country runner in 18 years to earn first team All-MAC honors and the BGSU women's cross country team ended in the top half of the standings for the first time since 2008 at the Mid-American Conference Cross Country Championships Saturday. Bowling Green was the host school for the annual event.
Salyer finished in sixth place to earn one of the seven first team all-conference awards. His time of 25:12.21 was less than three seconds shy of fourth place. He is the first Falcon to finish in position to earn first team honors since Brad Schaser placed second and Alan Boos sixth in 1995. In fact, no Falcon had even earned second team recognition since Eddie Kipchoge placed 14th in 2007.
As a team, the Bowling Green men ended ninth with 228 points. Greg Black followed Salyer in 42nd place with a time of 26:20.85.
On the women's side, Bowling Green ended in the top half of the league standings for the first time since the team placed fifth in 2008. The Falcons ended this year's meet in sixth place behind a balanced performance. Bowling Green's top four scorers all finished within 27 seconds of each other and the team's top five runners were comprised of three sophomores and two freshmen.
Sophomore Rebecca Rae surprised as the team's top finisher, finishing 21st with a time of 22:01.61. Sophomore Andrea Alt finished 27th less than 15 seconds behind in 22:15.90. Freshman Brittney Darah had her best meet of the year with a time of 22:24.50 and sophomore Amanda Garlak ran a 22:28.37 to place 34th. Freshmen Rachel Durbin just missed breaking the 23-minute mark with a time of 23:03.03.
BGSU will take the momentum from the MAC Championships into the NCAA Regionals as the Falcons compete at Wisconsin Nov. 15.
