In addition to the Falcons and host Western Michigan, other schools scheduled to compete at the Super Challenge include Colorado, Indiana, Louisville, Marquette and Notre Dame. Friday's action begins at 10:00 a.m. at the West Hills Athletic Club in Kalamazoo.
Seniors Nikki Chiricosta and Emily Reuland lead the Falcons in victories, heading into the final tournament of the fall. Chiricosta's total of 14 overall wins includes a team-leading eight doubles victories. Reuland has 13 total wins, including seven in singles play to lead the Falcons in that category.
Sophomore Katie Brozovich has 10 wins on the year, while classmate Drew Fillis has eight. Fillis had a BG-best four victories at last weekend's University of Cincinnati Invitational.
The team's three freshmen have combined for 16 wins to date, as both Hannah Drayton and Harley Hutchison have six victories and Brittany Plaszewski four.
Chiricosta is ranked fourth or better on all three of BGSU's career wins lists. She has 163 total victories as a Falcon, ranking third in school history. That total includes 83 singles wins (second on that list) and 80 doubles victories (fourth).
Reuland is eighth all-time at BG with 147 combined career wins. She is tied for ninth with 75 singles wins and ranks 11th with 72 doubles victories.
This weekend's tournament field features a number of nationally-ranked players. Four singles competitors and two doubles teams were ranked in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) preseason listings. That list included singles standouts Britney Sanders (35th in the nation), Quinn Gleason (87th) and Jennifer Kellner (117th), all of Notre Dame, along with Indiana's Katie Klyczek (83rd).
Sanders and UND teammate Julie Sabacinski were ranked 49th in the nation in the ITA preseason doubles listing, while Louisville's Julia Fellerhoff and Rebecca Shine were ranked 58th.
The ITA does not release team rankings prior to January, but Notre Dame (23rd), Indiana (42nd) and Louisville (72nd) all were included in the final 2012-13 team rankings.
This weekend's tournament will consist of 10 singles round robins of four players each. Each player will play the other three competitors in her group during the course of the weekend. There will be one round of singles play each day.
There will be two rounds of doubles play on both Friday and Saturday. The complete schedule of play for the weekend can be found at the bottom of the page.
Following this weekend's action, the Falcons will be idle from competition until the dual-match portion of the season begins in late January of 2014. BG will host Youngstown State at the Perrysburg Tennis Center on Jan. 26 to begin the 'spring' portion of the schedule.
