BGSU completes day two of Super Challenge
RESULTS: Singles | Doubles
Brozovich, a sophomore, and Chiricosta, a senior, bounced back from a loss to an Indiana duo to reel off three-straight wins in the back draw. They defeated teams from Marquette, host WMU and IU in the process, with the first win by a 6-2 score and the latter two by 6-3 results.
This weekend's tournament is utilizing the new rules proposed by the NCAA Championships/Sports Management Cabinet, which recommend, among other things, that singles matches use a super tiebreaker (first player to 10 points) in place of a third set, and that competitors play a six-game set in doubles with a tiebreaker at six all.
Sophomore Drew Fillis continued her winning ways in singles play on Saturday. After defeating a Marquette player on Friday, Fillis proceeded to down Notre Dame's Robert on Saturday. The two competitors split 6-4 decisions in the opening two sets, before Fillis gutted out a 10-8 decision in the 'breaker.
Fillis has won four consecutive singles matches, dating to last weekend, improving to 6-4 in singles play this season to date.
Freshmen Hannah Drayton and Harley Hutchison picked up a 6-3 win against a Marquette duo on Saturday, as BG closed the doubles portion of the weekend with an overall record of 5-6.
Chiricosta ranks second in school history in career singles wins, third in overall wins and fourth in career doubles victories. She now has 167 total victories, including 84 in singles and 83 in doubles.
Senior Emily Reuland, who teamed with Fillis for a doubles victory over a Marquette team on Friday, has 148 total wins to rank eighth in BG history. Reuland has moved into a fifth-place tie in doubles victories, with 73, and she is tied for ninth at the University with 75 singles wins in her career.
The Falcons will conclude play at the WMU Super Challenge on Sunday (Nov. 10), with action beginning at 10:00 a.m.
