The Bowling Green State University women's golf team will compete in a pair of tournaments, beginning on March 5 out in Arizona. BGSU will open its spring season in the Spring Challenge Cup, a dual match with Ohio University in Fountain Hills, Ariz., on March 5-6. Two days later the Orange and Brown will compete in the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational in Rio Verde, Ariz.
Last year the Falcons won the Challenge Cup 8-2 over Ohio at Red Hawk Golf Club in Findlay, Ohio. The Challenge Cup will feature 12 matches, three alternate shot, three foursomes and six individual matches.
Following the match with a fellow member of the Mid-American Conference the Falcons will compete in the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational (Mar. 8-10), a tournament that will feature teams from across the country. The Orange and Brown will compete against seven teams in the MAC: Akron, Ball State, Eastern Michigan, Ohio, Northern Illinois, Toledo and Western Michigan, but also see some unfamiliar faces in teams such as Arkansas Little Rock, Bradley, Missouri State, Montana, Northern Arizona, Texas A&M Community College, UMKC, Wichita State, and Xavier. In all, 17 teams will be competing.
The Falcons are coming off arguably their greatest fall season in school history, capturing two tournaments and finishing third in three others. To close the fall season the Orange and Brown won both the Cleveland State Invitational and Butler Fall Invitational and finished second at The Preview, a tournament that featured 15 teams, seven of them from the MAC.
BGSU finished the fall with a scoring average of 310.3, which would be a new school record if the season ended today.
Results for the Rio Verde will be posted following each day's action.
