Nikki Chiricosta Named MAC Player of the Week

BGSU junior earns weekly conference honor after 4-0 weekend
Chiricosta, a native of Avon Lake, Ohio (Avon Lake H.S.), earned the honor after going a perfect 4-0 last weekend, as the Falcons won a pair of matches to run their winning streak to a school record-tying 11. The Falcons defeated Butler and UIC by identical 5-2 scores.
On Saturday (Feb. 16), Chiricosta teamed with classmate Emily Reuland for an 8-2 win at the top doubles flight against BU. The following day, Chiricosta and Reuland combined for another top-flight win vs. UIC.
In singles action, Chiricosta won a pair of matches at the second flight, defeating the Bulldogs' Stephanie McLoughlin on Saturday, then losing just three total games in her Sunday sweep of the Flames' Mariana Palacios.
Chiricosta has captured 11 consecutive singles matches, having last lost in the Notre Dame dual on Jan. 18. Overall, she has won 20 of her last 21 contests (singles and doubles combined).
On the season, Chiricosta has an overall record of 44-12, leading the team in wins. Her 21-5 singles record is the best on the Falcons, and her 23-7 doubles mark ties her with Reuland for team honors.
Just a junior, Chiricosta already is tied for eighth at BGSU with a total of 142 combined career wins. She is deadlocked for 12th in school history with 72 singles wins, and is tied for 10th on the doubles chart, with 70 victories as a Falcon.
The Falcons are 11-1 this season, and Bowling Green looks to set a new school record for consecutive wins on Friday (March 22). BGSU opens the MAC schedule with a match against the University of Toledo, with first serve scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at the Perrysburg Tennis Center. The match will be televised in the Toledo area by BCSN.
On Saturday (March 23), the Falcons return to the PTC to host Eastern Michigan University. Starting time again is 1:00 p.m., and admission to both matches is free.
