Falcons Fifth After Day One of Rio Verde

The Bowling Green State University women's golf team carded a 303 on Saturday afternoon to sit in a tie for fifth after 18 holes at the Rio Verde Invitational on White Wing Golf Course in Rio Verde, Ariz.
The Falcons trail Northern Arizona (288), Eastern Michigan (295), Ball State (300) and Toledo (300). Other schools from the Mid-American Conference include Western Michigan (306), Ohio (318) and Akron (321). A total of 17 schools are competing in the tournament.
Round one, which was cancelled due to wet conditions, allowed for some strong scores on Saturday in the now 36-hole event.
BGSU was led by sophomore Shelby Wilson, who fired an even-par 72. The score was one shy of her career best and places her in a tie for fifth among 90 golfers. Wilson's round included four birdies.
Fellow classmate Patricia Holt shot a 75 and sits in a tie for 21st.
Also competing for the Orange and Brown were Amy Ruthenberg (77, T-35th), Hannah Lewis (79, T-56th) and Lily Bartell (80, T-64th).
The final round will take place Sunday morning. Fans can follow all the action right HERE. BGSU will tee off with players from Toledo and Wichita State.
