Falcons Battle Detroit Mercy In Midweek Action

Detroit, Mich. – The Bowling Green State University softball team (13-11, 1-3 MAC) hit the road to take on Detroit-Mercy this Tuesday, April 2, facing off against the Titans in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. The Falcons are 35-8 in the all-time series against the Titans, including a record of 7-1 under head coach Shannon Salsburg. The Falcons split their series with Detroit-Mercy last season, defeating the Titans, 6-4, in game one, before falling 3-1 in game two of the doubleheader at Meserve Field. Bowling Green pounded out 22 runs and gave up just five total hits in two games against the Titans in their last meeting in Detroit, sweeping the doubleheader, 14-0 and 8-3.

Sophomore Jamie Kertes had one of her better weeks of the season thus far, earning a 1-1 record including a complete game shutout victory over Miami. Kertes carried a 1.29 ERA over five games, allowing just three earned runs over 16.1 innings pitched. Kertes also struck out eight batters, while allowing just five walks.

Senior Adrienne Dick brought a consistent bat to the plate for the Falcons during the week, collecting a hit in 4-of-5 games. Dick was the only Falcon to hit over .400 over the five-game span, while also leading the Orange and Brown with four RBI and six total bases.
This Past Weekend – Ball State
The Bowling Green State University softball team lost both games in a doubleheader with Ball State Friday afternoon, falling to the Cardinals by a score of 4-1 in game one and 3-1 in game two.
Junior Erika Stratton collected the only Bowling Green hit in game one, going 1-for-3 with a single. Sophomore Paris Imholz pitched extremely well for the Falcons, allowing just two earned runs and striking out five in 6.2 innings of play against the high powered Cardinals. Sophomore Jamie Kertes also saw action, allowing just two hits before recording the final Ball State out. Berger collected two of the Falcons' eight hits in game two, going 2-for-4 with an RBI. Dick also collected two hits, going 2-for-3 in the second half of the doubleheader. Kertes was credited with the loss after giving up two earned runs and striking out two in 6.0 innings.

The earned a split with Miami University Saturday afternoon, falling to the RedHawks in game one, 3-2, before bouncing back with a 5-1 victory. The Falcon's game-two win marks their first MAC victory of the season, giving them a conference record of 1-3 with a 13-11 record overall.
Freshman Marisa Shook collected one of the Falcons' six hits in game one, going 1-for-4 with two RBI. Sophomore Paris Imholz (9-4) was credited with the loss, giving up three earned runs and striking out three in the first 6.1 innings. Sophomore Jamie Kertes also saw action, allowing just one hit on the final two batters of the sixth inning. Dick led Bowling Green with a 2-for-3 performance in game two, earning three RBI in the victory. Junior Erika Stratton also went 2-for-3, while Shook earned her fourth career double in a 1-for-4 outing. Kertes (4-6) earned the complete-game victory, striking out four and holding the RedHawks to zero earned runs.
