Abby Koch, Brooke Pleger Named Academic All-MAC

Cleveland, Ohio – Redshirt junior Abby Koch and redshirt sophomore Brooke Pleger were named to the 2013 Women's Indoor Track and Field Academic All-MAC team, as voted on by the faculty athletic representatives from the member MAC institutions. Andrea Alt, Jasmine Redman, Maria Meredith, Natalie Sommerville, Allison Weimer and Krystin Reiser earned honorable mention recognition.
“Our academic expectations and goals are high,” BGSU Track and Field coach Lou Snelling said. “Brooke, Abby and the six on the honorable mention list play a huge role in helping this program meet those expectations and goals. These student-athletes have successfully balanced a serious academic and athletic load to earn this recognition. This is a big part of what being a student-athlete is all about.”
Koch holds a 3.852 grade point average in communication disorders and qualified for the MAC Indoor Championships in the 5000. Her best time in the event was 17:45.06. Koch also ran the 3000 and posted a time of 10:26.40 at the Akron Invitational for a season-best.
Pleger has a 3.837 grade point average in nursing and was ranked among the top weight throwers in the MAC, finishing fifth at the MAC Championships with a toss of 61-feet-11.5. She won the event three times during the season and threw a season-best 62-1.25 at the GVSU Big Meet.
In order to be eligible for Academic All-MAC honors, student-athletes must excel both athletically and academically. The qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and have participated in 50 percent of the contests for their sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in the first year of residency are not eligible.
